Money Bags: Attn All Golddiggers

Symbolic recycled material fuses with fashion in these Claire Vivier handbags that I saw this morning:

remakecollage

here is my quicklist editorial, dash marked…of course.  And before I get into the list, I would like to point out that I am ALL about eco-chic fashion.

Things that rock about this bag:
- It’s so symbolic, come on now, a MONEY bag? That’s right. That’s pretty damn hardcore.
- It’s recycled, from imperfect materials (read: heavily discounted)
- It’s remade in America
- It’s just all around cool

Things that really REALLY suck about the bag:
Um…it’s ALREADY MADE. Why on earth do you feel the need to charge $159 for this bag?? I feel like businesses like yours are the reason why we continue to cycle into recession. Mind you, it’s merely the way I feel. I am by no means a certified economist, but I feel that if the item is already made, already recycled, and minimally embellished, it should be priced accordingly.

So there you have it. Alot of things really rock about the bag, but the thing that sucks is almost offensive to me as a consumer and so I will resort to Etsy.com to find one that is probably priced under $20. I really cannot stand when retailers attempt to exploit consumers.

If there was some sort of artwork or embellishment of a sort, I a may feel differently. That’s all.

The Peacock and the Universe

So last year, I was wearing my peacock earrings on a day shopping trip with my BGFF. Now mind you, I had on peacock feather earrings, a black Diane Von Furstenburg dress with wooden embellishments on the straps and wooden embellished flip flops. Totally bohemian chic…but Brianette (My BGFF) is the type of person who has to see things MATCH, unlike me, who prefers things to “GO” because I enjoy each item to have it’s own unique identity.

She, however, is the type to match her shoes, socks, capris, shirt, earrings, lipstick, eyeshow, earrings, purse and wallet. And even her sunglasses. True story. So anyway…my peacock earrings were bothering her, so she asked me to take them off, and offered to buy me a pair of wooden earrings to match the embellishments on my dress. Yes, I do adore my OCD friends, and being that I rarely get to hang out with her anymore, I said ok I put my peacock earrings somewhere, and I never found them again. It could be very possible that Brianette threw them away, but I have no recollection or proof if that is what went down. I really, REALLY missed my peacock earrings, especially because they were humanely and handmade, and that kind of stuff is important to me. With the summertime right around the corner, I am feeling the feather adornments, so I put out a microprayer to the Universe via Twitter (LOL!) asking for the earrings to make their way back into my life, and wouldn’t you know that a vendor was selling them at the UCLA Reggae festival that I went to that day. Woot!! Salud por Twitter, vendors & the peacock and the Universe!

I Know What Girls Like

dressing_closet_03, originally uploaded by La Vita Moderna.

I’ve MAYBE got enough room to put something like this in my room. I don’t know though. I really need more storage space, but I am kind of at a complete loss on how or where to put it. It looks like it’s just one of those garage storage units from Lowes, with a custom made cover that sort of covers the drama behind it.

And then a bunch of storage boxes from Target perhaps or even Ikea behind it. I’m already frothing at the mouth thinking of all the stuff that I could put in there….

Would You Pay 1k for A Coach Bag??

What happened to Coach being the introduction to designer handbags?? Remember the steps of induction? First comes Doony & Bourke, then comes Coach, then comes Louis Vuitton. And for those of us that never could really get into Doony, it was just a basic signature Coach.

I’ll tell you what I think happened…and that is the Outlets KILLED the Coach bag. Coming from a town where every chick with a job has a Coach bag, I went into uber-high-gotta-have-it mode to escape from that group, I had to be BETTER than Coach.

And then it happened. First, Brianette sent me the link to the new Coach print. 48 Hours later, I saw tables full of Coach vintage print at Macy’s on sale for 40% off. I didn’t buy any, of course, because I’m a Louis Vuitton girl now, and I’ve got to tell you I am digging the committed relationship.

After thinking about the new Coach print and the out of the blue sale at Macy’s I began to think and wonder WHY could this be happening? Is Coach trying to get in where they fit in, during a time of economical turmoil? Are their stocks doing good? I mean, they ARE an American company, and with Barack Obama being our new leader, it will be hip to be American again. And didn’t LV say that their sales were only doing good in China? Interesting.

And so I logged on to the Coach.com site tonight, out of sheer curiousity, and saw this. A purple fringed Coach Bag for $1000.

Get outta here.

The Trenchcoat on a Budget

I’ve gotten an email from a French student, residing now in NYC looking for a fabulous trenchcoat but on a budget. Here I have listed a few good buys – but if you are in NYC, then you might want to take a quick trip to Century21 clothing store – they have a nice coat section upstairs! Since I am from California, I don’t really have a need for a trench (althought I do own a few for travel purposes) so I did a quick search on some of my favorite sites. Good luck, and send me a photo of you wearing your new coat!

The Casual Blazer

So this season, one of the wardrobe essentials is an autumn blazer. Especially since we here in So Cal really don’t need a heavy coat during the day, and hoodies can get kind of overplayed if done too often. With a blazer, you can rock jeans & boots, leggings & booties, throw a mock turtle neck or even a plain tee and a scarf and your’re leaving the house looking fly as usual. I’ve bought a clearance blazer at Target for under $20 bucks, but it totally looks like a blazer from Target, on clearance, for under 20 bucks. I might have to jazz it up a bit with some tailoring, and maybe do some funky embroidering on the label or sleeve or something to make it look non-clearance-y.

I also found this Oscar De La Renta jacket on ebay – which is gorgeous and starting at a bid under 10 bucks. Size 6 for any of you small girls out there

Fall Must Have Shopping List

Ok, I’m almost done with my fall look book list. I’ve gotten most of my stuff from Target, Old Navy, thrift shoppes and ebay, so it’s been super low-cost this season, which everyone is in the same boat and it’s almost as if it’s not in style to spend alot of money!

Times like these make being a fashionistas rise to the top though, because you have to actually HAVE a sense of style to make Target work on your side. Here is my list for things that I am still looking for – maybe you will see something while surfing online and think of me and hopefully send me a link :)

Still Need:
- Berry shaded tights – not too opaque.
- High waisted dark wash denim
- Skinny gray wash denim
- Trousers
- Black thin-knit turtle neck
- Funky brooch in an animal motif preferrably.
- Bandida boots in chocolate brown or tan. Short heel, but not flats
- Faux fur leapord  print swing coat.

Betsy Johnson Cocktail under $200

Ok, so this is the same dress Amy Winehouse wore, but if you’ve got curves and a bar of soap, no one will really know it’s the same dress. It’s by Betsy Johnson, one of my favorite designers, if only for the cupcake type dresses that Little J from Gossip Girl can wear, but once in a while Betsy gives us a dress worth doing a cartwheel over. This one is a size 10, and is listed for $159 on ebay.

Gowns for Under $50

Ok, I’m going to  just start posting these on my blog so that all of you can check/read it at the same place because I can’t keep up with the individual emails. Alot of us are going to weddings this fall, and I’ve fallen in love with the evening and cocktail gowns at Nordstrom – AND have found alot of them on ebay! I’ll post photos, then the link.
