We went to the Shecky’s Girls Night Out LA the last time they hosted it, and at the actual event I was super disappointed with the goods.
Most vendors had brought in sweat-shop items from downtown LA, and one vendor even had the nerve to be selling fake sunglasses. Here is where this whole thing gets tricky…this past weekend, we went to the SassyCityChicks.com sample sale, and it was EVEN WORSE than the Shecky’s! Now mind you the flyer touted designers Ella Moss, Diane Von Furstenburg, Marc Jacobs and more…look, check it out for yourself! What we actually got, however, was even more sweat-shop cheapie stuff, perhaps ONE or Two vendors who actually did have samples or irregular items from some designers.
If there was more than ONE Marc Jacobs item in that venue, I will be absolutely shocked. And the gift bag? The ABSOLUTE WORST I have ever, ever seen in my entire experience in the fashion & beauty industry. Now the event cost $20 for a ticket, and $15 for parking and give or take $7 for gas. And all I have to say is Never, Ever again.

So I’m flipping through the latest issue of Vogue this afternoon after work…and I see this fabulous photo of Rhianna, who we all know looks simply amazing in anything Gucci, but this bag…is interesting.

Interesting as in, I have mixed feelings about it. I’ve recently been going through a metamorphesis with personal feelings and what it is that I truly find acceptable, lovely and not…and so when I saw this ad, I thought “I totally LOVE Rhianna. She is the perfect fashionista icon for the 20-somethings, a great IT girl”…and then I thought, but wait, I really don’t like tattoos on girls too much. I mean, I like good tattoos – like if your whole arm is sleeved and your badass with your tat, have amazing art and it is interesting to look at, but I kind of find the whole little tattoos here and there to be conflicting with my OCD.
Every morning I watch Jillian on Good Day LA and wish she didn’t have that horrible blotch of ink on her leg because it throws off the whole “look”. But back to the bag. It looks like a bag from the Hysteria Line, which I do love, but also feel that it’s on it’s way out…and the on top of that, it has tattoo type artwork on it. Which I think is WAY out of style. Kind of like the bob. It’s officially Soccer-Mom. Whenever I wear my last season Ed Hardy stuff, I get compliments from old ladies and soccer moms. Or chubby 13 year olds. The same ones who wear the itty bitty short denim skirts with black leggins underneath and bite their nails. Not quite my target audience.
So…. it seems kind of like too little too late…IMO. I’ve got to think about it some more, because I’m not sure how I feel exactly about the whole tattoo art as fashion anymore. I kind of think it’s been played out. But yea, I do have a few Ed Hardy stuff that I still wear, because…well, because I’m an undercover soccer mom, I guess. But at least they are 2 seasons old already…ya, I’m making excuses.

I was surfing my daily facebook routine and found a Fashion Horoscope. How weird? It’s totally new to me, so I’m not sure what it is exactly, it seemed to give me some general advice, but I’m going to give it a week of daily reading to see if it is fun or not.

Yes, I am blindly jealous of my cousin’s Isabelle Fiore handbag – it is no longer available, and it seems as if it was just MADE for me…and I have not found another bag that had it’s same appeal, and I have been looking! If you’re obsessed with Ms Fiore’s ethnic stitchwork and leather handbag art AND live in NYC, you can check out the sample sale that I am totally sad that I am not going to go to.

“The line, named McQ Alexander McQueen for Target, will be inspired by British rock band The Duke Spirit and will be priced within the retailer’s cheap-chic price range. (Designer Jonathan Saunder’s current pieces for Target include skirts for $18.89 and dresses for $27.99, for example.) The retailer notes that the new program differs from its GO International lines in which emerging designers like Proenza Schouler and Luella Bartley have created limited-edition lines for Target.” – credit this website for source
